WASTELESS AND CORRUPTION-FREE EFFICIENCY

Value efficiency where economic solutions follow and complement effective clinical and public health solutions

WHAT IS IT?

Wasteless and corruption-free efficiency involves health care and public health solutions that are clinical and economic. This means that decisions and interventions about health should combine careful economic evaluation with competent clinical and public health judgement.

Economic solutions follow, and complement, clinical and public health programs. Not the other way around.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Around the world, resources are scarce and competition for them exists, especially in the health domain. Fostering health capabilities for all requires wasteless and corruption-free efficiency. To prevent and remedy shortfall inequalities in health and health capabilities, unlimited increases in spending are unnecessary. Wasted resources undermine our ability to achieve optimal health for everyone.

Well-functioning, well-ordered, and well-organized health care and public health systems are what is necessary to provide effective resources and interventions equitably and efficiently to everyone.

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?

A competent, wasteless, and corruption-free health care and public health system will allow us to avoid the harm and suffering resulting from failing to take each person’s health and flourishing seriously. With efficient and effective health care and public health spending, we can distribute needed health resources to everyone. The collective capability of efficiency will enable us to achieve health equity.

HOW DO WE DO IT?

Our health care and public health systems must be guided by these principles and include effective safeguards against neglect, incompetence, fraud, corruption, and abuse. In order to spend money efficiently, we need to understand opportunity costs and gather the input of experts and scientists to determine the most effective way to focus investments.
